The RMHS Science Department offers students many opportunities for STEM exploration through core science courses, a variety of electives and extracurricular clubs.

The goals of the science department are to foster an appreciation for the physical and biological worlds, develop the knowledge and skills needed to be scientifically literate citizens, and to prepare students for advanced course work in scientific fields. Through the process of scientific inquiry, students grow their abilities to think critically, problem solve, and analyze scientific information.

All students are required to take a minimum of 3 years of science at RMHS. The recommended progression of core science courses is a Biology-Chemistry-Physics sequence from freshman to junior year.

The science department also offers a variety of science electives that give students the opportunity to explore such specific areas of interest as engineering, environmental issues, human anatomy and physiology, and epidemic diseases.

RMHS also offers Advanced Placement courses in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics 1 and Physics C. AP Physics 1 can be taken as a first year Physics course. All other Advanced Placement courses are available to students who have completed a full-year, lab-based foundational course.

Students must earn a passing score on one of the Science and Technology/Engineering Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) tests to receive a high school diploma. All ninth grade students sit for the Biology exam in June of their freshman year.
