About World Languages at RMHS

The goal of the RMHS World Language department is to foster love of languages and encourage curiosity about our global society. We strive to support students as they master the skills of effective communication (listening, speaking, reading, writing).

Language success comes from looking at the world from different perspectives and exploring diverse cultures.

We offer a comprehensive sequence of language options including Introduction to World Language Learning, French, Latin, and Spanish. All classes are aligned with the ACTFL World Readiness Standards for Language Learning and the ACL Standards for Classical Language Learning.

Our language sequences are designed to support students as they advance along traditional or accelerated language learning pathways, gaining language proficiency and demonstrating mastery.

Students must complete two years of world language study at RMHS. They may choose to change languages or elect to take more than one language, depending on their own interests and future goals.

Many students come to RMHS having met the requirements for the first year of language study, and with a recommendation from their previous language teacher, may move directly into the second year of that language.

Students are encouraged to continue in language study during all four years at the high school.
